This year you still didn’t quite know what to make of Halloween. Sure, you tolerated putting on your costume for the multiple parties we went to leading up to Halloween but didn’t really get why we dressed you up. That is, until Halloween itself rolled around. Once dressed and ready to go we walked you over to the neighbors house. As soon as that first piece of candy hit your bucket you turned around and walked right to the next house. It was as though the light bulb went off. Wait–candy? Let’s go get some more!!

This was when we got back. You wanted to go out for more!

It seems we’ve reached another milestone.  Over the last couple weeks, you’ve been giving us a hard time at meals, refusing to eat the food we give you – even when it’s your favorites.  You yell and point and shake your head away when we put anything near your mouth.  It’s been frustrating for all of us, but you the most.  Aside from a simple point at something, you just don’t know how to tell us exactly what you want yet.

But a couple days ago, Mommy and I figured it out.  You don’t want our help anymore!  You want to feed yourself.   You want to use your fork, even if that means eating one noodle at a time.  You want to spill your yogurt all over your shirt when you use the spoon.  You want to carry the banana around, even though it will inevitably break in half and fall on the floor.  At a year and a half old, you’re ready to go solo and exercise your independence.

Well, when it comes to eating anyway.

You also want to dip your entire hand in the sala.

It’s cool, bud.  We get it.  We’ll give you a little more space and try to be more patient while you learn.   Just don’t come asking for the car keys for another 15 years please.
